LA 2017 WPFG

STAGING A GLOBAL EVENT IN LOS ANGELES ON SHORT NOTICE

On August 7, 2017, more than 8,000 first responder athletes from over 70 countries gathered inside the historic, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the 2017 LA World Police & Fire Games Opening Ceremonies. Over 50,000 spectators witnessed competitions in more than 65 sports at 30 venues, making it the second largest multi-sport event in the world, to the Summer Olympics. Previous host cities have included: Melbourne, Stockholm, Barcelona, & Belfast and first hosted in San Jose, California in 1967. Next hosts include Chengdu, China (2019), Rotterdam, Netherlands (2021), and Winnipeg, Canada (2023).

Eleven months before Opening Ceremonies, the WPFG was set to be held in Montréal, Canada. When the site was shifted to LA, WeSellEvents had a compressed timeline in which to identify and hire staff, develop a corporate outreach plan, and secure necessary in-kind items. WeSellEvents engaged with numerous household name brands for sponsorships including; Motorola, Snapchat, AT&T, Met Life, Anthem, Easton, McKesson, the Ford Motor Company, and many more. In working with local authorities, WeSellEvents secured the infrastructure needed to stage the Games at landmark venues like Hermosa Beach, the LA Convention Center, and Camp Pendleton.

In addition, WeSellEvents brokered partnerships with professional organizations for the top two competitions, CrossFit and boxing for LA17 WPFG. For CrossFit, we worked for over three years with CrossFit HQ and their First Responder Division to not only get their endorsement, but enlist their team to put on our competition in addition to the “Elite First Responder” Division finals for their annual competition. For boxing, through relationships with the LAPD Boxing Team, WeSellEvents partnered with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya for this key event. Working with Golden Boy Promotions on all aspects of the event, boxing became the highlight of LA17 WPFG!
